About

The Alliance of Hispanic Serving Research Universities (HSRU) brings together 22 leading research-intensive institutions designated as Hispanic-Serving Institutions, united by a shared commitment to expanding educational pathways and advancing research excellence. Launched in August 2022, the Alliance is dedicated to increasing the number of doctoral degree holders, contributing to the higher education professoriate, and enhancing the nation’s research, scientific, and technical workforce. With a collective reach of over 850,000 students and $8 billion in annual research investments, HSRU leverages its combined expertise to drive innovation, foster collaboration, and create opportunities that benefit not only our institutions but also the broader academic and research community.

Our Guiding Principles

As research-intensive institutions serving large student populations, our member universities are uniquely positioned to drive institutional innovation and research impact. The Alliance enhances national research capacity, particularly in STEM fields, while also focusing on student success. By fostering research excellence and preparing future faculty and researchers, we strengthen both education and the workforce, contributing to scientific advancement and workforce development. Our collective efforts strengthen America's research enterprise and economic competitiveness, demonstrating how innovation and support work together to achieve these goals.

Collaborative Excellence

At the heart of the Alliance is a belief in the power of partnerships. By sharing resources, data, and best practices, member institutions combine their efforts to create a far-reaching impact that no single institution could achieve alone. This collaborative approach extends to fostering holistic support structures that address academic preparation, research experience, and professional development. By coordinating these efforts, the Alliance ensures that students receive the comprehensive resources necessary for success in advanced degree programs and beyond, offering effective solutions to complex higher education challenges.

Mission-Driven Pathways

We lead change in higher education by setting clear, measurable goals focused on increasing doctoral completion rates and creating pathways to academic, research, and technical roles. The Alliance works to expand opportunities, develop talent, and strengthen pathways to advanced degrees and academic careers. By reinforcing the pipeline into faculty positions and workforce roles, we ensure students receive the support they need to achieve their highest academic and professional aspirations, driving systematic change in how universities prepare students for the workforce.
